Summer is supposed to feel easy

Sun. Rest. Family. Freedom.

But for many, it brings something else entirely.

The loss of structure, the family gatherings, the vacations can stir up old wounds. Without structure, the mind can drift into places you’ve fought to stay out of. Old dynamics resurface. Boundaries get tested. The pressure to "enjoy it" only makes it worse.

You’re not broken because you struggle when others seem fine. You’re not weak for needing routine, space, or distance. Protecting your peace isn’t selfish, but survival. If skipping the trip, setting a boundary, or sticking to your routine keeps you steady, do it.

You don’t owe anyone your dysregulation just to make them comfortable.

Your healing matters even in the summer. Own your limits. Build the structure you need. Don’t apologize for what keeps you grounded.
